Workers Compensation Programs

Work Conditioning Program

Work conditioning is a comprehensive approach to specifically prepare a job related injured patient for resuming a place in the productive work force. Typically, these patient types present no attitudinal, behavioral, or chronic pain symptoms. Our goal is to restore physical, functional and vocational skills as they relate to their specific job.  Generally, these patients are incapable of working at their previous position or they are working part-time at a reduced functional level.  The patient or employer has a need or desire to safely transition back to their prior functional level.  They need a more concentrated, focused and aggressive form of monitored physical treatment than traditional physical therapy provides.  This treatment approach is usually between 4-8 hours per day, with mean treatment duration of 10 days or visits.

Work Hardening Program

Work hardening is a comprehensive treatment method with individualized care that requires a more sophisticated team approach.  These patients may have attitudinal, behavioral, or significant chronic pain issues that interfere with their ability to successfully return to work.  These patients generally must return to a medium or higher physical demand level job, have reached a plateau in conservative therapy, have completed surgery or are not a candidate for surgery. Their injury should be less than 2 years old and they typically have a position to which they can return when capable or may be appropriate for retraining through D.A.R.S..  Our multidisciplinary team focuses on the individual’s physical, functional, behavioral, psychosocial and vocational skills which will be needed for a successful transition back to work.  As a team, we work closely with the employee, employer, D.A.R.S. and the patient’s family to eliminate return to work barriers.  These programs are typically 8 hours per day and duration is 15-20 consecutive days.

Chronic Pain Program

An interdisciplinary “team” approach is the treatment of choice for chronic pain patients.  Unlike single treatment modalities, at Source One we provide comprehensive care that integrates psychological, physical, pharmacological and interventional pain management strategies to achieve optimal outcomes.  Patients are educated about the differences between acute and chronic pain and the treatment team helps them to develop an independent and proactive approach to their pain problem.  Often times, patients keep trying to tackle their chronic pain with acute pain solutions — bed rest, immobilization of the affected area, use of pain-relieving medications, all of which have a detrimental impact on pain that is persistent and chronic.  Chronic pain that is improperly managed leads to the development of chronic pain syndrome (CPS).  CPS is characterized by functional impairments, the presence of depression, anxiety, and/or anger, and dependence on narcotic pain medications.  All of the symptoms of CPS hinder the patient’s ability to work and can lead to marital strain and interpersonal isolation.  The interdisciplinary pain program at Source One helps the patients learn more effective coping skills to reduce pain and allow greater functional independence.  Our goals for your patients include:  1) Reduction of pain intensity, 2) Improved emotional status — less depression, anxiety, anger, 3) Improved physical stamina, 4) Reduction in use or elimination of narcotic pain medications, 5) Return to job, job skills training, and/or development of an attainable return-to-work plan.  Strong emphasis on being able to resume some type of work is a unique component of our approach at Source One.  We are dedicated to helping chronic pain sufferers achieve the highest level of functioning in all aspects of their lives.

Brain Injury Program

Cognitive dysfunction is the most common problem leading to partial or total disability after a patient has experienced some form of brain injury.  This can be due to either natural organic causes or secondary to a traumatic brain injury, (TBI).   Treatment of cognitive dysfunction is central to the aid and recovery of patients because of the widespread impact of the many potential deficits.  These deficits often affect the patient’s general safety, functional independence, performance of A.D.L.’s and social interaction with friends, family and co-workers.  These individuals are frequently successful/highly functional individuals who have lost critical cognitive components which most people would take for granted.  Unfortunately, if left untreated these individuals may permanently lose their ability to successfully perform critical functions or tasks required to function at their pre-injury level.  A highly integrated and coordinated team approach is used to carefully evaluate, identify and develop a customized cognitive, psychological and physical treatment plan to address areas of deficit.  Reduction or elimination of the targeted problem areas combined with the proper use of assistive devices and compensatory techniques facilitates and maximizes the brain injured individual’s opportunity to regain a more fully functional life and increased levels of activity performance.
